Municipal Building Commission
2010-2014 Capital Projects
The MBC submits capital projects proposals to the City of Minneapolis, Capital and Long-range Improvement Committee (CLIC) and Hennepin County, Capital Budgeting Task Force (CBTF) processes. The following MBC projects have been submitted for funding in the 2010-2014 budgeting cycle:

Mechanical and Life Safety Systems Upgrade Project
This project will improve fresh air and temperature control, and implement life safety components in the City Hall and Courthouse building. This is a multi-year project with funding requested beyond the current budget cycle.

Elevator Upgrade
The MBC is currently modernizing the second of the two Interior Court Elevators. This elevator has been out of service since the spring of 2007. This project is planned for completion early in 2010. The next elevator scheduled for modernization will be the clock tower elevator. For 2013, funding has been requested to replace the existing freight elevator with a passenger elevator, moving the freigh elevator to a new and more functional location.

Historic Mayor's Office and Reception Room
Created in 1906, the southwest corner of first floor at the City Hall/Courthouse was the home of the Mayor's office and reception hall. Originally very ornate in their finishes, these spaces have seen several changes over the last 100 years. In 1983 a report was prepared called the "The Civic Place Plan" that called for the restoration of these spaces as a part of a plan to "bring a new civic spirit to life within the building." More recently in 2007 a restoration report and cost estimate was prepared specifically for the Mayor's Office and Reception Hall addressing in more detail what these spaces were like originally and what it would take to restore them. The hope of the MBC is to restore these spaces in coordination with mechanical and life safety upgrades for the same area.
